Which cells hold onto the dust you inhale?

1. Olfactory cells (nerve cell)
2. Mucus producing cells
3. Nose hairs
4. Ciliated cells

In the nasal cavity you will find nose hairs. What is their function?

1. they filter large particles out of the air you inhale
2. they filter small and large particles out of the air you inhale
3. they filter germs and small particles out of the air you inhale
4. they filter out large and small particles and germs out of the air you inhale

8.3 Your blood transports

You will learn how your blood transports substances and what makes your blood flow.

Compositon of blood

Blood plasma = light yellow liquid in your blood; in here nutrients and waste products are dissolved, amongst others

Find in your book and write down in your notebook:

What are the functions of: 

-red blood cells

- white blood cells

Do you also know the function of platelets? 

Blood cells

White blood cells = cells in your blood that fight pathogens

 

Red blood cells = cells within blood that transport oxygen. Oxygen binds to haemoglobin (iron-containing substance) within the red blood cells.

The heart

The heart consists of four blood-filled areas:

• two atria: the left and right atrium.
• two ventricles: the left and right ventricle.

Ventricular septum = separates the heart into a left side and a right side

What is the function of the valves?

Electrocardiogram

 or ECG =

An ECG of one heartbeat. 

P = the contraction of the atria

QRS = the contractions of the ventricles 

T = the relaxation of the ventricles

The heartbeat is regulated by impulses

= sinoatrial node

= atrioventricular node
