Halve uren (always use 'past')

- 03:30 = half past three AM

- 12:30 = half past twelve PM (half 1)

- 17:30 = half past five PM (half 6)

Kwartieren (use 'past' or 'to')

- 14:15 = a quarter past two PM

- 21:15 = a quarter past nine PM

- 16:45 = a quarter to five PM

- 02:45 = a quarter to three AM

Wanneer zeg je 'past'?

In de eerste 30 minuten van ieder uur gebruik je past (van 1 minuut over t/m 30 minuten over), dus:

- 12:01 = one past twelve PM

- 12:20 = twenty past twelve PM

- 12:30 = half past twelve PM

Wanneer zeg je 'to'...

In de tweede 30 minuten ieder uur gebruik je to (van 31 minuten over t/m 59 minuten over), dus:

- 12:31 = twenty-nine to one PM

- 12:45 = a quarter to one PM

- 12:59 = one to one PM
