Grammar: Conditionals

Mission: 

You know that...

• You use conditionals to describe facts, likely situations and unlikely situations.
• They consist of an if-clause and a main clause
• The if-clause describes a condition. The main-clause states the result of that condition

Grammar 12: Conditionals 

• If I wake up tomorrow - When I wake up tomorrow... What's the difference?
   
• If en when geven beide aan onder wat voor omstandigheden dingen gebeuren.
   
• if: gebruik je als je denk dat iets ZOU KUNNEN gebeuren .
• when: gebruik je als je ZEKER WEET dat iets gaat gebeuren.
   
• If I go out later, I'll close the door.
• When we fly to Spain, I will be very nervous.

Conditional = een voorwaardelijke zin.

Er zit dus een voorwaarde aan. Je gebruikt hem bij feiten, waarschijnlijke en onwaarschijnlijke situaties. 

Conditionals bestaan uit een if clause (if zin) en een main clause (hoofdzin).

De if clause (de if zin) beschrijft de voorwaarde.

De main clause (hoofdzin) beschrijft het resultaat.
 

If i had money, I would buy a house -> Ik zou een huis kopen ALS ik geld had.

--> Het geld hebben is dus de voorwaarde.

We can drive past McDonalds, if you help me study after

--> Het helpen is de voorwaarde voor het langs de McDonalds rijden.

Which sentece is a zere conditional?

1. If a tree falls, it makes a sound
2. If I run every day, I will get fit
3. If I had a dog, I would be happy

Which sentence is a first conditional?

1. If it rains, the street become wet
2. If I feed my cat, it will stop meowing
3. If I was you, I would apply for the job
4. Plants grow, if they get enough water

Which sentence is a second conditional?

1. My parents will arrive on time, if they leave now
2. I would buy this house, if I had the money
3. Ice melts, if it gets to warm
4. If I write this down, I will remember it

o conditional: resultaat is een feit + beide zinnen staan in Present Simple

---> If it rains, the street becomes wet (beide in t.t.)
 

1st conditional: resultaat is voorspelling. Gebruik will + stam

--> If I pay attention, I will remember it (t.t. + will)

2nd conditional: resultaat is bedacht of niet echt. Gebruik would + stam

--> If I had a dog, I would be happy. (v.t. + would)
