CLIL: Content and language integrated learning

Easier:

We pay attention to our subject (geography / history), whilst also paying attention to use of English and proper grammar / spelling.

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

Examples of typical CLIL exercises:
1) Write a story in English, using certain words from this chapter.
2) Watch this video, can you summarize it in 2 sentences?
3) Did WW1 happen because of German militarism? Discuss!
4) Write down all hard words from this section of the book
--> Ask your neighbour if he/she knows what they mean?
5) If you would explain Egyptian culture to your 5 year-old sister, what would you say to her (in English)?

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

My way of improving their vocabulary
- They need a seperate notebook
- From now on it's called the glossary
- It's a mini dictionary
- They write down all hard words plus dutch translation in their glossary
- for example:
Precipitation - Neerslag

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Slide 10 - Tekstslide

CLIL exercise:
"Egyptians believed that their pharao would REINCARNATE in the afterlife. This meant the pharao still needed his body, including all important items he used in daily life."
Reincarnate means "coming back to life". Verbs with "re-" mean that something is happening again.

CLIL exercise: Write down 5 sentences with 5 different "re-" verbs that indeed show that something is happening again. (You can look up some)
