Belfast was founded as a town in 1613 by Sir Arthur Chichester. It became a city in 1888. The whole of Ireland became part of the United Kingdom in 1801. The southern part became its own country in 1920. Belfast was then made the capital city of Northern Ireland. Belfast castle sits on a hill that has beautiful views of the city.
