Preposition of movement

Prepositions (voorzetsels) of movement show movement from one place to another place. These prepositions always describe movement and we usually use them with verbs of motion. The most common preposition of movement is the preposition to, which describes movement in the direction of something, 

for example: How do you go to work?

the man bikes.......... the river

Cardinal directions

The four main points of a compass north, south, east, and west are the cardinal directions. They are also known by their first letters: N,S,E, and W. The directions on the compass that are in between the cardinal points are called northeast, southeast, southwest, and northwest. These are called intermediate directions.

Look at map. You are going to listen to directions to four different places. Write in the places as you hear them.

Final activity: Giving directions

A) In pairs, practice asking for and giving directions

• Ask your partner to get to their home from school.
• Then, your partner can ask you for directions to your house.
• If you already know where each other's houses are, then ask directions to your partner's sports club, favorite restaurant, etc.
