How to finish a sentence with the correct linking word.

1. What is the context that's already given in the sentence?
2. What is the link between the two parts of the sentence? 
3. Which linking words from that category do you know?
4. Check whether your sentence is grammatically correct.

I really like Lord of the Rings, ______ I don't like the Hobbit.

1. liking a certain film/book and not liking another
   
2. contrasting linking word
3. but, however, in contrast...
4. all options are fine.

I failed my test ____ I didn't study.

He will not be attending the lecture _______ a high fever.

I like him , _______ I don't always agree with him.

Lees de vraag, niet de antwoorden! Staat er nuttige informatie in de vraag?

In het voorbeeld hiernaast zie je dat je moet kijken in paragrafen 1 en 2.

Verder staat er het woord relate in de vraag. We moeten dus op zoek naar een signaalwoord en uitzoeken om welk tekstverband het gaat.

2. Cultural diversity should preferably be preserved.
3. Local cultures are readily sacrificed in the quest for profit.

Uitleg

De vraag is wat de kern van deze paragraaf is.

- Signaalwoorden zijn yet (r. 1) en but (r.3) Die markeer je.

- Bij antwoord A stond iets over a country's economy. Dit staat niet echt in de paragraaf.

- Bij C staat iets over dat Profits belangrijker zijn dan Cultures. Dat staat ook niet in de tekst.

- Blijven B en D over.

- B is positief,  D is negatief. De zin achter het signaalwoord 

Yet is negatief, en de zin na But is dat ook.  D is dus het juiste antwoord.

What is the point made in paragraphs 1 and 2?

1. In the past the male Y chromosome used to be more substantial.
2. Men are hardly able to cope with challenges of their male pride.
3. Procreation may one day be realised without male participation.
4. The male physique is deteriorating at an alarming pace.

Uitleg

De vraag is wat de kern van deze paragrafen is.

- Signaalwoorden zijn but (r. 1), But (r. 4), So...that (r. 6).

- Bij antwoord C wordt gesproken over procreation, in de tekst helemaal niet.

- Bij antwoord D wordt gesproken over the maie physique, in de tekst helemaal niet.

Bij  but (r.1) staat dat het Y-chromosoom ten onder gaat. Bij But (r. 4) staat dat het niet is wat het ooit was.

Er is dus een tijdsverloop, zoals ook verwoord wordt in Antwoord A

De Afrikaanse kuststreek is tegenwoordig te warm voor pinguïns.

FYI: De tekst gaat algemeen over pinguïns in Afrika

Uitleg

De stelling was: De Afrikaanse kuststreek is tegenwoordig te warm voor pinguïns. 

Een van de  zoektermen was warm. In dit hele stuk tekst wordt op geen enkele manier gesproken over temperatuur, dus de stelling is onjuist.
