Passive

We use the present simple passive or past simple passive when:

1. We want to focus on the action more than the person who does or did the action.

      "The bridge was repaired."

2. When we don't want to say who did the action, or when it is obvious who did it.

        "The film was watched around the world."

!When we know or want to mention who did it, we use by. 

        "The articles are written by the students."

How do we make the passive?

Present simple passive:

- am/is/are + past participle

   "the river is cleaned every year."

Past simple passive:

- was/were + past participle

   "The book was published in 2017. "

Rewrite in the passive:

Someone cleans the street every morning.

• The streets are cleaned every morning.

Rewrite in the passive:

I ate the last cookie.

• The last cookie was eaten.

Rewrite in the passive:

I forgot my homework.

• My homework was forgotten.

Rewrite in the passive:

My mom crashed our car this morning.

• Our car was crashed this morning (by my mom).

Rewrite in the passive:

• The government built that bridge in 1984.
• That bridge was built in 1984 (by the government).

Rewrite in the passive:

Someone handed the presenter a note.

• A note was handed to the presenter.
