REPORTED QUESTIONS 

Als je VRAGEN herschrijft, moet je dezelfde stappen zetten als bij reported statements, maar je moet ook nog een extra stap zetten. 

Kijk eens naar deze zinnen: 
"It is cold here."
She said that it was cold there.

"What are you doing here?" 
She asked what I was doing there. 

Dus: 

Een directe vraag heeft VRAAGVOLGORDE 

Een indirecte vraag heeft een BEVESTIGENDE (of eventueel ontkennende) VOLGORDE.  

"Is he your best friend?" (eerst persoonsvorm dan onderwerp - vraagvolgorde.) 

She asked if he was my best friend (eerst onderwerp dan persoonsvorm - normale woordvolgorde)

Kijk naar deze voorbeelden 

"Do you like football?" - He asked whether I liked football.

"Did you see that movie about zombies last week?"
She asked if I had seen that movie about zombies the week before. 

Wat verdwijnt hier uit de zinnen met direct speech? 

De stappen bij het maken van indirecte vragen zijn dus: 

- Voeg if/whether toe
- Draai onderwerp en persoonsvorm om of haal do / did weg uit de vraag. 

- Zet werkwoordstijden één stap terug in de tijd als dat kan. 

- Verander persoonlijke en bezittelijke voornaamwoorden

- Verander bepalingen van plaats en tijd. 

Reported imperatives 

"Stop talking!" 

"Don't listen to him!" 

He told us to stop talking

They warned us not to listen to him 

Dus reported imperatives: Someone told/warned/advised/urged us + (not) + to do something. 

Rewrite to reported speech:
"Do you think the weather will be nice today?"

1. He asked if I did think the weather would be nice that day.
2. He asked if I thought the weather would be nice today.
3. He asked if I thought the weather would be nice that day?
4. He asked if I thought the weather would be nice that day.

Rewrite to reported speech:
"Have you ever met anyone famous?"

1. He asked have you ever met anyone famous.
2. He asked me weather I had ever met anyone famous
3. He asked me whether I had ever met anyone famous.
4. He asked me whether I did ever meet anyone famous

"Who did you meet last night?"

1. She asked me who I had met the previous night
2. She asked me who had I met the previous night
3. She asked me who I did meet last night
4. She asked me who I had met last night

"Mind the gap between the platform and the station."

1. The underground driver warned us to mind the gap between the platform and the station.
2. We were warned to mind the gap between the platform and the station.
3. A and B are both correct
