modal verb ?

Modals
* Modal verbs are unlike other verbs!
* They do not change form.
* Verb after a modal is always in the infinitive. 
* Modals are rule 1 verbs, this means you do not use do/does/did when making questions or negations with them. 
! To have to is an exception; it is a rule 2 verb. (Two singular subjects connected by or, either/or, or neither/nor require a singular verb.)

Modal verb: can
Can & to be able to

Can is used to talk about possibility and ability, make requests, ask for or give permission
To be able to is only used to talk about ability.
He can run really fast.
Can I go to the bathroom?
They weren’t able to solve the problem.

Could is the past tense of can but
And used as a more formal or polite way to ask questions.
 Also used when something is likely to happen in the future, but is not certain.

I could hold my breath much longer when I was younger.
Could you show me where it hurts?
We couldn't walk a mile every day, if we feel like it.

Modal verbs: must, have to and should

Must and have to used to say that an action needs to be done (obligation). 
Must when the need comes from the speaker. 
Have to when the need or obligation comes from someone else like a doctor.
Should is used to give advice, say that something is the right thing to do, or make a suggestion.

You should go to the doctor.
Do we have to take our medication?
