Unit 1-6 Revision
Today, we will briefly go over all of the grammar items of unit 1 to 6. We will discuss each one together with opportunities for you to practice and ask questions. 

It is important to know the rules, but it is more important that you are able to use them. Be sure to practice :)

Present Simple
We use the present simple when talking about facts and habits.
Fact
Water always boils at 100 degrees Celsius.
Habit
I cycle to school everyday

Present Simple
We form the present simple with the base form of a verb.
We play football every Saturday. -> from infinitive to play

With the pronouns he, she and it, we place an -s at the end of the verb.
She plays football every Saturday.

Present Continuous
We use the present continuous to say that an action is going on right now.

Look! It is raining outside.
I don't want to do the dishes. I am playing a game right now.
We are staying at home at the moment.

Present Continuous
We form the Present Continuous as follows:

am/is/are + verb + -ing

John is cooking dinner now.

Past Simple
We use the past simple when talking about a finished action in the past

I walked to school yesterday.
She went to the hairdresser last week.
They lived in Wolverhampton in 2018.

Past Simple
We form the past simple as follows:
Regular verbs
verb + -ed
He worked all day yesterday.

Irregular verbs 
verbs from the 2nd row in the table.
She ran across the country last summer.

Past Continuous
We use the past continuous to talk about an action what went on for some time in the past.

They were watching TV all night yesterday.
I had a great time while I was living in Wolverhampton.

We form the past continuous as follows:

was/were + verb + -ing

We were doing the dishes when the doorbell rang.
He was working all night yesterday.

Future Simple
We use the future simple to talk about 1) future intention at the moment of speaking, 2) to offer something and 3) a future fact.

1) I think I will have pizza for dinner.
2) I will help you study.
3) I will turn 22 this year.

Future Simple
We form the future simple as follows:

will + infinitive without 'to' (infinitive = to start)

I will start my job as a teacher next year.

Going to (future)
We use 'going to' in the future tense to talk about 1) a decision made before the moment of speaking and 2) to make a prediction based on facts.

1) He said that he isn't going to go on holiday this summer.
2) Look outside! It is going to rain.

indefinite articles - a + an

Used with singular, countable nouns when talking about something for the first time. Speaker knows, listener doesn't.

I have a cat at home.
He has an apple tree in his garden.

Definite article - the

Used with singular and plural, countable and uncountable nouns when the speaker and the listener know the thing that is being talked about.

I am going to the grocery store in a bit.
Did you feed the cat?
