Was / Were + verb + ing

This is called present continuous

It is used to show something happening in the past, during the past.

I was working at a bank when I discovered that the save was empty

When do you use it

We use it to say something happened in the past when another thing happened

We use it to show growth or change

Example: Her English was improving

We use it for things that happen again and again:
example: They were fighting every day
