Context of Lesson:

 

Many diseases of the heart can lead to a patient needing a whole new heart (transplant) or replacement of part of the heart.

Heart valves disease is an example of when a part of the heart needs to be replaced.

Some heart valve diseases are inherited and can be common in some families.

Diseases of the heart valves can tell us a lot about the function of the heart and the blood flow through the heart.

Valve disease can mean the valves do not open properly. This also means......?

1. Increases blood flow through the heart
2. Reduce blood flow throught the heart.
3. Blood flow through the heart is stopped
4. Blood flows the wrong way.

If the valves do not close, they are leaky. What happens to blood flow?

1. Blood flow is increased.
2. Blood flow is not fast enough.
3. Some blood flows backwards.
4. Blood flows to all 4 chambers of the heart.
