An action/event that started in the past and is relevant in the present -> She hasn't eaten all day. (= She's hungry now...:()
Situations that started in the past and continue up to now -> Theyhave taught at this school for 5 years now.
Life experiences -> Haveyou ever broken a bone?
past simple
= talk about finished actions in the past. You usually say when they happened --> Last weekend I went to Amsterdam. She ate a sandwich yesterday. He slept until 12pm.

I have had my laptop for 3 years.
To create a question: use HOW LONG+ have + past participle (verbED / 3rd column) = For how long have you had your laptop?
