- Zero conditional sentences express general truths (waarheden) or known facts (feiten). 

- First conditional sentences express possible future events (mogelijke toekomstige gebeurtenissen) or actions (acties/daden) that are likely to happen.

- Second conditional sentences express unlikely or unrealistic future events (onwaarschijnlijke of unrealistische toekomstige gebeurtenissen). 

- Third conditional sentences express hypothetical past outcomes or consequences (hypotetische verleden uitkomsten en consequenties).

"If I were you" is grammatically correct because of the mood. You're discussing what you would do if something that isn't true was true. It would be "was" if you were talking about something that actually did happen."
