Het aantal landen dat homoseksualiteit strafbaar stelt, is de afgelopen tien jaar gedaald van 92 naar 76. In Rusland en grote delen van het Midden-Oosten en Afrika is homoseksualiteit nog steeds niet geaccepteerd. In acht landen staat er zelfs de doodstraf op. Vijf landen voeren die straf ook daadwerkelijk uit: Mauritanië, Soedan, Iran, Saudi-Arabië en Jemen.

Eerder deze maand werd al bekend dat steeds meer Nederlanders positief staan tegenover lesbiennes, homo's, biseksuelen en transgenders. Toch vindt een derde van de Nederlandse het 'aanstootgevend' als twee mannen zoenen in het openbaar. Ter vergelijking: twee vrouwen die zoenen schokt een kwart van de Nederlanders, bij een heterokoppel is dat tien procent.
