Past simple

Use : Describes completed actions or events in the past. 

Rules: Use the verb's past form for all subjects (eg, "I worked"). 

Examples:  Affirmative : "She traveled to Italy last year." 

Negative: "They didn't finish the project." 

Question: "Did you enjoy the movie?"

Past continuous 

Use: Describes actions that were in progress at a particular time in the past. 

Rules: Subject + was/were + verb + -ing 

Examples: 

Affirmative: "I was reading when he called." 

Negative: "They weren't studying at midnight." 

Question: "Were you sleeping at that time?"

I .. (not/drink) a Red Bull last night. (negative)

1. didn't drink (Past simple)

4. didn't drink (past continuous)

What time (he/get up) yesterday? (Question)

1. did he get up (past continuous )

Past Perfect

Use: Describes actions completed before another past action. 

Rules: Subject + had + past participle 

Examples: 

Affirmative: "She had left before he arrived." 

Negative: "I hadn't eaten before I went to the party." 

Question: "Did they finish by then?"
