We use it to refer to people, things, events or previous parts of a sentece. 

Who: specifiek persoon of groep mensen. 

That: ook voor personen of groepen mensen maar dan minder specifiek.

I don't like people ... walk slow in front of me.

How to use who, which and that

Which: refereren naar alles wat niet een persoon is, zoals evenementen of dingen.

That: refereren naar evenementen of dingen als het woord 

that, all, any, anything, everything, first, last, nothing, only, something in de zin staat.

How to use who, which and that

Leaving who, which and that out:

Laat het weg als het gevolgd is door een persoon die een actie doet.

"Is this the man (who) you caught shoplifting?"

"Look at the chocolate cake (that) I made this afternoon."
