1. woorden die eindigen op -e, dan valt de -e weg.

bake - baking = I am baking a pie

2. woorden die eindigen op - ie, de ie verandert in -y

lie - lying = I am lying on the couch

3. als het woord eindigt op 1 L - verdubbelt de L.

travel - travelling = He is travelling by car.

4. korte woorden die op 1 medeklinker eindigen - verdubbel de medeklinker

swim - swimming = I am swimming in the pool right now.

5. woorden die eindige op 1 klinker + medeklinker, en de klemtoon ligt op de laatste lettergreep, verdubbel de medeklinker.

visit - visiting (klemtoon op 1e lettergreep)

begin - beginning (klemtoon op laatste lettergreep).
