Pitch Discrimination

Pitch discrimination is the ability to differentiate between different pitches or frequencies. 

It involves identifying whether a sound is high or low.

Pitch Movements – Comparing two notes

If sounds get gradually HIGHER we call that an ASCENDING MOVEMENT.

If sounds get gradually LOWER we call that an DESCENDING MOVEMENT.

Pitch Movements – Comparing two notes

Pitches can move in STEPS, in LEAPS or stay in the same note (unison)

If a melody moves from one note to the next: we call that steps.

If a melody skips many notes and skips from a low to a higher note we call that a melodic LEAP.
