Lesson Objectives/  Goals

The theme of today’s lesson is “Follow Your Dreams.”

In this lesson, we will talk about dream jobs.

We will also discuss: “What is your dream job?”

While talking about your dream job, you will learn to use modals (can, can’t, must, mustn’t, have to, could).

Our grammar focus today is modals.

We have a video related to our theme,

 titled “Seeing is Believing.”

SEEING IS BELIEVING

What does “seeing is believing” mean?

Can you give an example from your life?

Example answers:

I didn’t believe I could run fast… but seeing myself win a race proved it!

I didn’t think I could draw well, but seeing my painting made me confident.

Modals (hulpwerkwoorden)

• Must = moeten > als je zelf vindt dat iets moet

        - You must buy that game, it is amazing. 

• Have to = moeten > noodzaak, zekerheid, verplichting

        - You have to get a VISA to get into the USA. 

• Should = zou (eigenlijk) moeten > advies, maar geen verplichting

        - Jack should study for his test. 

• Can = of jij/iemand iets kan

       - Can you speak English?

• Could = Beleefde vragen

       - Could you help me please.

Must

must = als je zelf vindt dat het moet of als het moet maar het is niet verplicht.

Have to

Have to = verplicht.

All drivers have to stop in front of a red traffic light!

can/could

Je gebruikt can of could vooraan een vraag als je vraagt of jij/iemand anders iets kan doen.

• Can, could, should, have to and must zijn hulpwerkwoorden. ( modals- auxiliary verbs)
• Deze werkwoorden veranderen niet van vorm, behalve have to. Bij he/she/it wordt het has to.
• Ze staan voor het echte werkwoord.
