THE BASIC RULES

1. You get to class on time, with all the materials (books, pens, etc.) you need.

2. Phones belong in the phonebag, hats and hoodies are not worn and your coat is on the coatrack.

3. If I or a classmate are speaking, you're quiet.

4. If you want to respond, raise your hand and wait until you are given the turn. Same goes if you have any questions.

5. We treat eachother with respect.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT

Your homework for next week will be to write an introduction letter. Full details and an example will be available through Mumyesterday.

In the following slides I will explain some of the basics.

INTRODUCTION ASSIGNMENT - 1

This is a writing assignment. You are going to write me a letter to introduce yourself to me, in English. I have included an example written by myself and you could see your letter as a reply to that.

Take your time preparing your letter. This is not for a grade, but to help me see what your current level is. So there is no pressure, it doesn’t have to be perfect or flawless, it just needs to be the best you can do, so I know where you’re at in terms of your English level and can help you achieve your best grade at the end of the year.

Year 2: minimal 400 words

Year 3: minimal 500 words

1. Who are you? (Name, age, 2. Where are you from and where do you live?

2. What does your family look like (parents, siblings, are you the oldest or the youngest, or perhaps a middle child)?

3. Describe a normal day in your life to me.

5. What are your favourite and least favourite subjects at school, and are these the same as your worst and best?

When I review your letter, I will look at the following:

1. Your spelling and vocabulary
   
2. Your grammar
   
3. Style (is your language appropriate, do you write in a way that is easy to read and understand and do you use different ways of saying things)
   
4. Understanding (did you understand and perform the assignment correctly)
   

AFTER THE ASSIGNMENT

Though I won’t give you a grade for this assignment, I will give you feedback, including an indication, based on this assignment and observations during the first lessons, as to your level, what I think you need to focus on most and what this means for how we will work in class.

Again, all these details will be shared in a file through Magister as well. THe assignment has to be handed in before Monday next week (12-9-2022)
