Hoe 'lees' je een woordenboek. 

1. Het woord dat je moet opzoeken.
2. De uitspraak van het woord. 
3. Het aantal woordsoorten wordt aangeven, in dit geval 2, zowel een zelfstandig naamwoord als een werkwoord.
4. Woordsoort zoals bijvoorbeeld zelfstandig nw, werkwoord, bijvoeglijk naamwoor.
5. Hier vul je het woord in dat je hebt opgezocht.
6. Voorbeelden in het Engels worden schuingedrukt. 

Stam van het woord

It was extremely  cold outside.   >   stam = extreme

She loved her new phone.            >   stam = love

That is unfair.                                      >   stam = fair  

They are talking  too much.          >   stam = talk

Guess the word 

Het raden van een woord is ook een vaardigheid die je kunt ontwikkelen. Zo hoef je niet elke keer het woordenboek erbij te pakken.  

Je kan de betekenis soms uit een zin halen, het woord kan op het Nederlands lijken of misschien herken je al een deel van het woord.

Answers:

1. I'm breaking up with you, pack your bags! (pak je spullen / ga weg)

2. Pack one bag for the trip. (pak één tas in)

3. We are hunting with a pack of hounds. (meute jachthonden)

4. The printer has packed up again. (is er weer mee opgehouden)

Controlevragen bij woordenboekgebruik

1. zoek ik een werkwoord  (WW) / zelfstandig naamwoord (ZN) / bijvoeglijk naamwoord (BNW), enz.
2. past de eerste betekenis het beste bij mijn zin, of moet ik verder lezen, kijk ook naar de voorbeelden!!!
3. is er een combinatie van ww + voorzetsel?
