Used to contrast and compare things in English. 

Comparatives (vergrotende trap)

American portions are larger.

American breakfast is sweeter than British breakfast.

Wholemeal bread is more expensive than white bread.
British breakfast is better than American breakfast.

add -er to the adjective (bijvoeglijk naamwoord)

Long words (more than 2 syllables?) add more in front of the word 

 Watch out for exceptions! (good - better)

Superlatives (overtreffende trap)

British breakfast is the saltiest breakfast in the world.

Americans are the friendliest staff.

Black pudding is the most expensive item on the menu.

Pancakes are the best breakfast item.
