Basisregels van de Past Simple

Regelmatige werkwoorden: 

Voeg “-ed” toe aan de stam van het werkwoord.

Voorbeeld:

Walk → walked

Play → played

Onregelmatige werkwoorden: 

Deze werkwoorden hebben unieke vormen in de verleden tijd en volgen geen vast patroon.

Voorbeeld:

Go → went

Eat → ate

Gebruik van de past simple

Affirmative (bevestigend): Subject + werkwoord in de verleden tijd

Voorbeeld: She visited her grandparents last weekend.

Negative (ontkennend): Subject + did not (didn’t) + basisvorm van het werkwoord

Voorbeeld: He didn’t go to the party.

Questions (vragen): Did + subject + basisvorm van het werkwoord

By the end of the day, John felt proud of his work. He drove the car around the neighborhood and enjoyed the smooth ride. His hard work paid off, and he planned to do more maintenance next weekend.
