Welcome to this lesson!
Today we will check what you learned from paragraph 2.2, and we will move on to paragraph 2.3.
Slide 1 - Tekstslide
Goals
You can name the parts of the male reproductive system a sperm cell moves through from formation until ejaculation
You can name all parts of the female reproductive system and what their functions are
Slide 2 - Tekstslide
First..
A few questions about paragraph 2.2, to check if you've understood it!
Slide 3 - Tekstslide
Which of the following is NOT a male reproductive organ?
A
Seminiferous tubules
B
Pituitary gland
C
Prostate
D
Vas deferens
Slide 4 - Quizvraag
Can you explain what the function of the prostate is?
Slide 5 - Open vraag
Because of prostate enlargement due to aging (bigger prostate), men can have issues with urinating. Explain why this happens
Slide 6 - Open vraag
Put the organs in the correct order a sperm cell travels, from sperm production until ejaculation: Epididymus, Prostate, Sperm duct, Testis, Urethra
Slide 7 - Open vraag
GONADS
During the videos of the male reproductive system, you might have noticed a certain word being used that we did not discuss:
the gonad (plural: gonads).
Gonad = reproductive gland, which is the gland that produces the gametes and sex hormones of an organism
Slide 8 - Tekstslide
GONADS
But wait.. Wasn't that the pituitary gland?
Yes, and no.
The pituitary gland sends hormones to the gonads
And then the gonads produce more hormones to get the reproductive processes going
Slide 9 - Tekstslide
GONADS
Which ones are the male and female gonads?
Male = testis
Female = Ovary
Slide 10 - Tekstslide
THEN WHAT ARE GAMETES?
Gonad = reproductive gland, which is the gland that produces the gametes and sex hormones of an organism
Gamete = 'sex cell', the cell that is produced to perform the fertilisation and thus the reproduction
Male gamete = sperm
Female gamete = egg (oocyte, ovum)
Slide 11 - Tekstslide
Drag to check if you understood!
GONAD
GAMETE
Sex cell
Sperm
Egg
Ovary
Gland that produces hormones and gametes
Testis
Slide 12 - Sleepvraag
To summarize..
Gonad = reproductive gland, which is the gland that produces the gametes and sex hormones of an organism
Activated by the hormones of the pituitary gland
Male gonad = testes; Female gonad = ovary
Gamete = 'sex cell', the cell that is produced to perform the fertilisation and thus the reproduction
Male gamete = sperm; Female gamete = egg (oocyte, ovum)
Slide 13 - Tekstslide
And now towards 2.3..
The female reproductive system
What do you already know?
Slide 14 - Tekstslide
What parts of the female reproductive system do you already know? Name them!
Slide 15 - Woordweb
The female reproductive system
External (outside the body, visible): vulva, labia, clitoris
Internal (inside the body, not visible): everything else
Note: normally, we call the 'outside part' the vagina. However, this is actually not true. The vagina is part of the inside organs. The correct term for the 'outside' would be vulva.
Slide 16 - Tekstslide
VIDEOS
The following slides both contain videos about the anatomy of the female reproductive system
You can choose one to watch
The longer one is more specific, but very complete
The shorter one is missing a few parts, which you then have to figure out for yourself in the book
Slide 17 - Tekstslide
Slide 18 - Video
Slide 19 - Video
That was it!
Next lesson, we will quiz you to check if you understand the different parts of the female reproductive system
To prepare yourself for that, we have the same assignment as last time for you in itslearning: submit a list of all the bolded words in the paragraph, together with their definition. Deadline = before the next lesson (Friday)
Slide 20 - Tekstslide
Homework
The assignment as noted in the last slide
Make exercise 7-10 in your workbook
Go through paragraph 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3, and see if there's anything you didn't understand.
