Future tense

Goals 

At the end of this lesson you:

- Remember the forms of the future tense as taught in year 3.

- You can use the forms of the future tense.

What verbs/ways do the English use
to talk about the future?

Will + infinitive (= hele ww)

• Belofte/aanbod/voornemen op het moment van spreken: I will help you with your homework. I will call you tomorrow. I will pick up the telephone.
• Gebeurtenis (neutraal): The parcel will arrive next Thursday.
  
• Voorspelling zonder bewijs (I think/probably/possibly): I think they will win the match 
• Na wens/voorspelling/belofte/gedachte: I think/hope/am sure that he will phone me. 

Will vs Shall

• Bij I & we in gewone zinnen, mag je beide gebruiken. 
• In vraagzinnen met I/we MOET je shall gebruiken, tenzij je om informatie vraagt.
• Voorbeelden: I will/shall be rich some day. Shall we go to the cinema? 
• Will + not = won't 

to be (am, is, are)+ going to + infinitive

- Intentie/Plannen zijn al bedacht:

I am going to visit aunt Betsy tomorrow.

- Voorspellingen met bewijs:

Look at all those clouds. It is going to rain soon.

Present Continuous = am, is, are + ww+ ing

Plannen waarvoor de voorbereidingen al gedaan zijn.

We are having dinner at a restaurant at 6.30. (made reservations)

I am flying to Paris next week. (bought the tickets)

Present Simple ww / ww+(e)s

Als er sprake is van vaste tijden (roosters, vertrek/aankomsttijden, openingstijden, starttijden van evenementen):

The stores close at six.

The plane leaves in ten minutes.

School starts at 8.15.

This lesson finishes at 14.00.

Amy has turned 16! She ...... a party at her house this Saturday. You are invited as well.
