Indirect speech

Je gebruikt dit als je wil vertellen wat iemand anders heeft gezegd:

Jason: "I'm reading a very good book."

Jason said (that) he was reading a very good book. 

Tony: "My mum isn't home yet."

Tony said (that) his mum wasn't home yet. 

Indirect speech

Je gaat altijd een stapje terug in de tijd (want je vertelt het later):

Direct: present continuous: aan het --->      indirect: was/we past continuous

Indirect speech: present simple

De present simple 

"I don't like shopping", says Mary. 

Isobel: "What is the homework for History?"

wordt  de past simple: 

Mary said she didn't like shopping. 

Isobel asked what the homework for History was. 

Indirect speech: present continuous

De Present continuous :

 ' I am working from nine to five today' says Appie

wordt de Past continuous:  Was/were + ww-ing

Appie said (that) he was working from nine to five today.

Indirect speech: present perfect

Present perfect 

Amy: "I have woken up late this morning." 

Jake: "I have done it right away". 

wordt de Past perfect: 

Amy said (that) she had woken up late that morning.

Jake said (that) he had done it right away. 

Indirect speech: past simple

Past simple :

Amy: "I woke up late this morning." 

Jake: "I did it right away". 

wordt de Past perfect:

Amy said (that) she had woken up late that morning." 

Jake said (that) he had done it right away.
