Plants make food and oxygen for animals and people. The cells in your body use the substances that plants make. Discuss what our body does with the substances we get from plants. Discuss with your neighbour why life woudn't be possible without plant 

What is the use of glucose?

Using glucose

• Changing glucose into other substances (= metabolism)
• Breaking it down to release energy

What does a plant do with this energy?

Mitochondrion

An organel in cells. Breaks down glucose to 'make' energy.

The amount of mitochondria differs greatly among cells. 

For example: Musclecells have lots of them.
