The rivers source is where the river starts it's journey. The source of the Amazon River starts high in the mountains of the Peruvian Andes at over 5,000 m above sea level. The Specific source is being debated by a lot of scientists.

River basin and watershed
The river basin is the area where all the rain water goes to one river. And the watershed is the dividing line between multiple river basins. As you can see the river basin is really big and it has a variety of landscapes like rainforests, floodplain forests, savannahs and rivers.

Tributaries
Tributaries are the the smaller rivers that join the big river. The Amazon also has a lot of tributaries. The Amazon river has 70 tributaries, so we won't be naming all of them,but we'll name a few. For example Cajari River, Napo River and Rio Negro.

Mouth
The mouth of a river is where the river flows into a lake or sea.
The mouth of the Amazon river is into the Atlantic Ocean and at 0 m above sea level.

Long profile
The long profile is the river from it's source to it's mouth and it has 3 courses: The upper course, middle cours and Lower course.

Upper course
The Amazon Rivers upper course takes part in Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela, whose waters drain into the Solimões (river) and its tributaries. So it is big.

Middle course
In the middle course the Amazon River is wider and it goes through a lot of valleys. It causes a lot of erosion in the valley.

The Amazon River flows way slower than it did before. It slowly flows into the ocean.
