will + infinitive: used when you talk about a decision made at the moment of speaking. 

(spontaneous decision)

going to

to be going to + infinitive: used when you talk about a decision before the moment of speaking. (intention)

Julie: There's no milk.

John: I know. I'm going to go and get some when this TV programme finishes.

will

will + infinitive: used when you talk about a future fact.

It will be Julie's birthday tomorrow.

The sun will rise tomorrow.

going to

to be going to + infinitive: used when you talk about a prediction based on something we can see (or hear) now.

It's going to rain real soon, look at the heavy clouds.
