Comparisons - er/est
To form comparatives, we mostly do the same thing as we do in Dutch.
Most short words gain –er or–est at the end:

Words with 1 syllable (lettergreep)
Words with 2 syllables that end in –y (happy), -er, (clever),
–le (gentle) and –ow (narrow) .

Cheap - cheaper - cheapest

Comparisons - er/est
Words that end in a short vowel + consonant (klinker + medeklinker), double the last consonant

Big - bigger - biggest
Thin - thinner - thinnest

Slide 10 - Tekstslide

Comparisons - er/est
Words with 2 syllables that do not end in –y, -er, -le or –ow or words that are longer, do not gain –er/-est but instead use more/most
