Wat zijn "conditionals"?

Dit zijn zinnen die aangeven hoe waarschijnlijk het is dat iets gaat gebeuren (als iets anders gebeurt).

If aliens landed in Limburg, they would.....

• Second conditional

if sentence	result
past simple	would + infinitive
If aliens landed in Limburg	they would celebrate carnaval

• impossible things in the present, unlikely things in the future 
• Heel onwaarschijnlijk dat het gaat gebeuren
• If + past simple / Would(n't) + hele werkwoord

We form the second conditional with

1. if + past simple, would + infinitive
2. if + present simple, would + past tense
3. If + past perfect, would + infinitive
4. If + past simple, would + past simple

A correct example of the second conditional is..

1. If she went to the police sooner, the thief had been caught.
2. The house smells good if my mom bakes a cake.
3. If I had a dog, I would walk in the park every day.
4. The house would smell good if my mom bakes a cake.

Second Conditional.
If Julie....(like) chocolate, I ....(give) her some.

Pick the Second Conditional sentence.

1. If Julie doesn't wear a hat, she gets sunstroke.
2. If Julie wears a hat, she will be protected from the sun.
3. If Julie wore a hat, she wouldn't get sunstroke.
4. If Julie had worn a hat, she wouldn't have gotten sunstroke.

Second Conditional:
If he ... (have) a beard, he ... (look) older.

1. would have, would look
2. didn't have, would look
3. had had, would have looked
4. had, would look
