Y7: Cell Revision

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

What do you already know about cells?

Slide 2 - Woordweb

Cells are the building blocks of life.
All living things (organisms), from bacteria to elephants, are made of cells.

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Cells are made up of smaller parts. We call these parts sub-cellular structures or organelles.
Animal cells have 4 parts (organelles) that you need to know.

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

The nucleus contains DNA and controls the cell.
I know this part is the nucleus because there is only 1 and it is the biggest part inside the cell.

D
Site of chemical reactions in the cell.

Slide 9 - Quizvraag

The cell membrane controls what enters and leaves the cell.
I know this part is the cell membrane because it goes all the way around the outside of the cell.

Slide 14 - Quizvraag

The mitochondria release energy for the cell to use through a process called respiration.
I know this part is the mitochondria because it is oval shaped and has folded membranes inside.

Slide 19 - Quizvraag

The cytoplasm is a gel where the chemical reactions in the cell happen.
I know this part is the cytoplasm because the arrow not pointing to a structure, but the inside of the cell.

Slide 28 - Tekstslide

Plant cells look a bit different to animal cells.
They have all the same parts (organelles) as animal cells, plus 3 more.

This is because plants do something we cannot. They make their own food.

Slide 29 - Tekstslide

The cell wall protects and supports the cell. We don't need one because we have a skeleton.
I know this part is the cell wall because it is the thick, outside layer around the cell.

Slide 35 - Quizvraag

The chloroplasts are the site of photosynthesis - the process by which plants make food.

Slide 42 - Quizvraag

The vacuole is a storage area for sap and helps to keep the cell rigid (stops it shrinking).
I know this part is the vacuole because it looks like a big bubble in the middle of the cell.
