Shortly after the Europeans arrived, the importation of Africans as slaves happened. 

They brought their music with them which was just as varied as the Native Americans.

American Music
American music became a melting pot of lots of different kinds of music. It's a mixture of African, European and Native American music.

Even more types of music became popular in America when people from all over the world came to live there.

Pop Music
Pop(ular) Music as we know it now originated in the 1930s in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Pop music is meant to appeal to a wide audience and is known for being accessible. More often than not, themes in pop music are relatable to many different kinds of people.

Rockabilly
Rockabilly was a genre that evolved from country music in the 1940s. It was a mix of R&B and the Blues.

The most famous Rockabilly star is Elvis Presley.

Hip-Hop was a cultural movement that started in the Bronx in the 1970s. It consisted of four elements.

Two of these elements, rapping and DJing, make up Hip-Hop music.
This is the DJ that brought Hip-Hop to America from Jamaica.

EDM
Started in the 1980s in America and grew from there.
Genres such as Hardstyle, House and Dubstep all evolved from the original Electronic Dance Music.

The growth of music
American and English music was influenced by so many different cultures. Because of this it had a very wide appeal.
It spread all over the world in the 1950s and to this day we still listen to countless English and American artists.

The growth of music
The camera and music videos also had a big influence on music. Music could now not only be listened to on the radio, but also enjoyed on TV and, more recently, platforms like YouTube.

This lead to many new types of music being shared from all over the world. The most famous example would be K-Pop, which is one of the biggest genres right now.
