Questions about plants

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

What will we be learning today?
Today we will be learning:
What organs plants have.
What the function of those organs are.

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

Plants
Plants can look very different from each other, but they often have the same organs: roots, stems, leaves and flowers.

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Roots
Roots are very important for a plants, as they can:
- Anchor the plant in the soil
- Aborb water and mineral
- Store food
- Reproduce

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

Roots
The root system consists of a few parts. The thick root that goes directly down is called the tap root. Roots that go sideways are lateral roots and they have little root hairs

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

Stems
Plants also transport a lot of substances, just like our blood does. A lot of the transportation takes place in the stems through its vascular bundles

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

Vascular bundles

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

Stems
Stems also make that plant sturdy. That is why some plants can get very tall! Stems can consist of wood (woody plants) or not (herbaceous plants).

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Leaves
Fotosynthesis takes place in the leaves, as it has a lot of surface and can easily exchange carbondioxide and oxygen with the air.

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Vascular system
As mentioned, transport also takes place in plants in two different vessels:
- Water and mineral from the roots to the leaves
- Water and glucose from the leaves These vessels are often close to each other in vascular bundles.

Homework next lesson
Make all the exercises of paragraph 2.2, starting on page 98. You also need to make the plus exercise, but can skip the summary.

Slide 11 - Tekstslide

Which function of the roots do you see here?

Slide 12 - Open vraag

When someone puts a plant in a new pot and it only takes the tap root with it, the plant often dies. Why is that?

Slide 13 - Open vraag
