• Yesterday, last night, last week, a year ago etc.

• was/were + verb -ing
• Als je wil zeggen dat iets in het verleden een tijd heeft geduurd/aan de gang was

+   I was reading a book this morning

-    I was not/wasn't reading a book this morning

• Vaak gebruiken we deze twee tijden samen in 1 zin
• Iets was aan de gang in het verleden (past continuous) en werd onderbroken door iets anders (past simple)
