why do we learn this?
misspelled/confused words :
- more confident in English
- the more confident you become, the more fluent you will sound

Present simple & present continuous :
- regularly used in everyday speech
- to talk about fixed habits/routines
- to talk about actions happening at the moment

  • Often misspelled
  • Pronunciation is the same (homophones)

  • possessive adjective (bez. vnw.)
  • Refers to something that belongs to you

For example:
  • Is that your laptop?
  • I love your shoes

  • contraction of "you are"


For example:

Examples:

Present simple


We use the present simple tense when we want to talk about fixed habits or routines – things that don’t change.
Present continuous


We use the present continuous to talk about actions which are happening at the present moment, but will soon finish.

present tense of the verb be and the –ing form of a verb

Present simple


We can use the present simple to talk about:

  • habits or things we do regularly 
  • facts, or permanent situations 
  • stative verbs
  • future timetabled events




Present continuous


We can use the present continuous to talk about:

  •  things we are doing now, but will soon finish
  • temporary actions/situations
  • changing or developing situations
  • future actions that are decided

Present continuous
present tense of the verb be and the –ing form of a verb
  •  things we are doing now, but will soon finish
I can't talk. I am brushing my teeth.
I'm reading a new book. I love it!

  • temporary actions/situations
I'm going to work by bus this week
  • changing or developing situations
Your English is improving
The climate is changing very quickly
  • future actions that are decided
I'm meeting John this evening.

Activity: Chain postcards
 1. Class divided in 2 groups
2. Each group: imagine that you are writing a postcard while you are sitting on the balcony of your hotel room.
3. Look at the picture: write about your spoiled holiday - describe what is happening at the moment you are writing: anything goes!
4. Write 1-2 sentences in present simple and/or present continuous.
5. Do it individually. Then pass it on to the next person.
6. Teacher reads the finished postcard of both groups.
7. The group with the  best/most spoiled/funniest postcard wins!
