Talking about the near future

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

How do you talk about things that happen in the future?

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

You can talk about the future by using “going to” and "will".

You use “going to” when the future is probable and "will" when it is a spontaneous decision.

Subject + am + going to/will  + verb
                    are
                     is
For example:
I forgot to clean my shoes! I will do it after dinner.
I am meeting my friends today and we are going to play a boardgame.

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

You use the present continuous when the plan is an arrangement.

Subject + am + -ing form
                     are
                      is
Tip: you use this form (the present continuous) when you use “aan het” in Dutch
  • Ik ben aan het dansen
  • I am dancing

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

Let’s practice!
I will give you 2 pictures. Please describe what is happening in these pictures using the present continuous

(Subject + am/are/is + ww+ing).
