C - Rules:

• We use the past simple for events in the past which are seperate from now (present). |  DO - DID - DONE

> He broke his leg last week. (= 1 moment in past)

• We use the present perfect to connect the past and now (present)    |    HAVE/HAS + DONE (vt.dw.)

> He has had a cast ever since. (from last week till now, still)

D - Rules:

• Past simple: last week - a year ago - in June - yesterday
• Present perfect: for - since (from past till now)
• Present perfect: just - already - yet (link with now)
• Present perfect: ever - never (any time till now)

B - Rules:

• We use the past simple for an action that happened at 1 moment in the past.  + WHEN |  DO - DID - DONE

> They heard loud barking. (= 1 moment in past)

• We use the past continuous for a background action/longer moment in the past.  + WHILE    |    WAS/WERE + ING

> While they were riding, ..                                                    now do: 2c
