What is the standard rule for the past simple

1. Verb + s
2. Verb + ing
3. Verb + ed
4. Verb + dt

The standard rule 

Verb + ed 

Except: 

- ends with -e? verb + d (like --> liked)

- ends with -y? -Y changes into -i + ed (cry -->cried)

Negatives in the past simple

99% of the time:

Subject + did not/didn't + whole verb + object

We didn't catch any fish.

Except: the verb to be

I, she, he & it --> wasn't           You, we, they --> weren't

We weren't up until late yesterday.
