used to,
would and the
past simple to talk about repeated actions and habits in the past. However, we can only use
used to and
would if they no longer happen now.
I used to / would ride my bike every day
(we can be sure that the subject no longer rides their bike every day)
I rode my bike every day
(we can assume that the subject no longer rides their bike every day, but we can't be sure. Statements in the past simple require further information to clarify, for example:
I rode my bike every day when I was younger, but I don't anymore.
