Past simple: saw, finished, walked, found, was, watched, had

Past continuous: was washing, was working, was driving, was complaining 

(was/were + verb + ing)

"While I was watching TV, I heard a noise from the next room."

Which action is longer?

1. watch TV
2. hear noise

"When the kids arrived I was cooking dinner."

Which action happens in the middle of another action?

1. kids arrived
2. cooking dinner

Naar NL vertalen: We were singing when Patrick arrived.
