What do we need to know?

- Which landscapes are found in The Netherlands

- What are the characteristics per landscapes

- Which landscape do you live in or close to

- You are able to compare the different landscapes

To start: what do you think of if you think of Friesland?

Lonely Planet thinks of Friesland as a special region. Why?

Especially because of the landscape

Friesland: a lot of water.

And because of that the landscapes that are special for a lot of places of the world:

Marine clay and fen

And also special: all our   rivers.

Some parts of the coast are dune coasts.

Do we find that close to home?

Peat ( fen/bog) do we find close to Asten. Asten itself is built on the sandlandscape

We do not find a lot of relief in our country.

Zuid-Limburg -->  heuvelland.

Is no sand or clay but the rests of plants of several 1000 years ago.

Waterlevel is always high so a lot of ditches.

Not very fertile

Which landscape protects us
against sea water flooding?

Dune

Biggest grains of sand

Hills where not a lot grows

The hills move over time under the influence of the wind and the sea

Heuvelland-

Zuid-Limburg

in the deep south: hills.

In Zuid-Limburg is the most relief.

Fertile soil, a lot of agriculture and Vruchtbare grond, veel landbouw and vineyards.
