Task 1. Different types of food Basis
A. Your own food intake

Think hard and make a list of the different food items you consume (eat and drink) on an average week. Don’t worry about the quantities, just think about all different types. Look up the English names of types of food and drink if you don’t know them, and add them to your word list for this part.

Write your own personal list and share it with a group or a classmate.

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

Task 2. The bad side of food production Basis

Aside from using money to buy our food, we pay another heavy price for our food intake. In the last few years, many people have become more aware of their eating patterns and how this is related to health issues, the environment, deforestation on land and in the ocean, animal suffering, and (plastic) pollution. For many people, these have been reasons to change their diet and think more consciously about what they eat.

Slide 10 - Tekstslide

1. Do you have a special diet? Why (not)? In your answer, use adjectives and forms of much/many/little/few to talk about foods and preferences.

Slide 11 - Open vraag

Seaspiracy focussed on the impact of fishing on the environment. Take a close look at this infographic, make sure you understand everything and answer the questions below.

1. Which of the facts in the image is most important to you? Why?

In your answers, use adjectives and forms of have to / don’t have to.

C. Fact check! Uitbreiding
Should you believe everything you hear? The information presented in Seaspiracy can definitely be seen as shocking! Some people have completely changed their diets on these documentaries alone. But should we believe what is being said in those documentaries?

Go online and look for information from people who want to debunk what these documentaries tell us. There are debunking videos on YouTube and you can find lots of articles about this.

1. Summarise the information you find.

2. Now that you’ve found information that points in the other direction as these documentaries, what do you think is true?
