For this assignment you will research a ‘’hero’’. You can research one of the people who were mentioned in the text, but you could also choose for someone else who did something important against prejudice, discrimination or human rights. (Ask for approval from your teacher).

Examples: Aletta Jacobs, Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, Tula, Harriet Tubman, Malala, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Desmond Tutu, James Baldwin, Wilhelmina Drucker , Muhammad Ali, Harvey Milk, Sophie Scholl, Nawal El Saadawi, Anton de Kom, Greta Thunberg

Each hero can only be chosen once!

1. Historical and social context: What were the historical and social conditions of your hero. What was the cause of the injustice/discrimination/etc. that they fought?
2. Motivation and personal sacrifices the hero made
3. Impact on policy and legal change: Analyze the concrete legal or policy changes that occurred as a direct result of the hero’s actions. How did their actions influence future generations, international human rights policies, or movements in other countries?

7. Methods and strategies: Explore the methods and strategies they used to combat injustice. Did they achieve their goal?
8. Interview with the hero: create an interview with your hero about the current status of the issues they fought. What would they say about that and would their advice be? NB: be creative! Don't advise the same as what they did before but update to current times. Make clear how the current state of affairs is.
