What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a paid job with training, available for people of all ages, from GCSE level to Masters, providing a crucial route into work.

Apprenticeship Levels

Apprenticeships are offered at levels 2 to 7, covering a diverse range of roles in various sectors, including upskilling existing employees and training new recruits.

Off-the-Job Training

Apprentices must spend 20% of their time in 'off the job' training, which includes activities in the workplace to extend their learning beyond their day-to-day role.

Approved Apprenticeships

There are over 500 approved apprenticeships, catering to a wide range of roles in different sectors.

Funding and Levy

Large employers pay into the apprenticeship levy, while smaller businesses can access co-investment funding from the government. Levy payers can also transfer unspent funds to smaller businesses.

Training Providers

Businesses select training providers such as colleges, independent providers, and HEIs to deliver apprenticeships.
