Phrasal verbs - things to remember
You can't always figure out the meaning just by looking at the separate words. 
(Sometimes the meaning is idiomatic, not literal.)
They can have multiple meanings.
Look at the context!
Some are separable. If separable, there will always be an object

turn on
turn = rotate. But to turn on the tv = activate it.

take off
Take off your jacket, please. = remove
The plane is going to take off soon. = depart/leave

put on
-> I need to put on my dress.
                                                        
-> I need to put my dress on.

Seperable Phrasal verbs 
If a phrasal verb is separable, there will always be an object
If the object is a noun, it can come before or after the particle.
Can you please pick up Laura from the airport?

Can you please pick Laura up from the airport?

If the object is a pronoun, it can only come before the particle.
Can you please pick up her from the airport?

Can you please pick her up from the airport?
