 Form pairs.

[STEP 2]

Each pick 1 of the 4 poems; these might be the same poem or different poems. 

[STEP 3]

Individually read and study your chosen poem for 15 minutes. 

[STEP 4]

Talk to your classmate for 5 minutes and compare and contrast the book that you have already read with the poem that you have just studied. Examine the two literary works via a thematic link in order to elaborate on their similarities and differences. 

You must include:

* A claim – are the book and poem similar or dissimilar?;

* 2 arguments – 1 argument pertaining to the book and 1 argument pertaining to the poem;

* An explanation of the similarities and dissimilarities;

* Proof of the similarities and dissimilarities;

* A reformulation of your claim;

* Relevance – why does it matter? 

[STEP 5]

After 5 minutes your classmate will ask you questions for an additional 5 minutes. 

[STEP 6]

Switch roles.

[STEP 7]

Pick another poem and repeat steps 1 through 6.

During this assignment you may use the following items: 

* the book that you have read;

* a Dutch-English, English-Dutch and Dutch dictionary;

* the notes that you are allowed to take during your 15-minute preparation.

You may NOT use the reader or any other items.
