Study Questions for The Dumb Waiter
  1. Explain how language is often echoed between the characters in the play and its impact on both the characters and the reader;
  2. What kind of role does silence have in this play, and what does it try to either conceal or bring forth?;
  3. Explain the tension and anxiety between social classes and how this is displayed in the play;
  4. Explain how foreshadowing plays a part in revealing what is happening in this play;
  5. Explain why this play can be characterised as being absurd while giving specific examples;
  6. Repetion seems to have a prominent role in the play. Explain its significance;
  7. Make a comparison between this play and capitalist slavery.
